Job Description

Gauteng Department of Health is inviting people with a minimum of Grade 10 and prior experience in the food industry to apply for the food service aid position.

Duties

  • Ensure proper and effective Food Service/catering service by adhering to the Food Service Supervisor’s production and work schedules, recipes, and directions.
  • Maintain and ensure proper usage of Food Service equipment, and report breakages immediately.
  • Provide high-quality food supply services.
  • Assist with event and function preparation and catering.
  • Food preparation for normal, therapeutic, and snack diets.
  • Daily food preparation and distribution according to the assigned ward.
  • In the tube feed area, prepare fluids, food, and feeds.
  • Perform daily cleaning duties in accordance with the work schedule.
  • Using Hygiene and Safety precautions in the workplace in accordance with the Hygiene and Safety manual and established work schedules.
  • To ensure that allocated physical and financial resources are used properly.
  • Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, managers, patients, and hospital personnel as needed.
  • Prepare to relieve in all sections of the Food Service unit as needed.
  • Be willing to participate in ongoing training and development initiatives.
  • Be accountable for all supplies and resources assigned to your section.
  • At all times, all Food Service policies, procedures, and job descriptions must be followed.
  • To guarantee proper equipment and inventory upkeep Duties that are relevant to the job description

Requirements

  • Grade 10 with food industry experience.
  • Previous experience in the food service/food-related area is an advantage.
  • Procedures and methods for hygiene and safety.
  • For employment, you must be physically and mentally fit.

Skills

  • Communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Time management abilities and basic numeracy (e.g., basic computations and knowledge of decimals, measures, and so on) are required.
  • English communication skills, both vocal and written.
  • Appropriate food and food preparation expertise.
  • Understanding of the Batho Pele Principles.
  • Should be willing to work shifts and holidays.
  • Be prepared to work in a team and under pressure.
  • Will be expected to circulate across all departments within the Human Nutrition department.
